Daddy Rose Bowl 5k finish… Look at my dad’s!

I’ve been doing this #25DaysOfSharing thing on #waywire this month, in which I’m telling a story about a different memory from the year each day for the first 25 days of December.

As I’ve been looking back for memories to share, I found this post.

It still makes me laugh. My dad is hilarious.

No matter how many marathons he does in the future, I don’t ever see him stopping the hilarity. There will always be some event he does that’s super hard, and he will always act like we’re going to die while we’re doing it. He keep the laughter flowing the whole time. I never even notice 13.1 miles go by.

Look at how far he’s come! In January, he visited me in L.A. and did his first 5k. He wore a sweater! (I just took a moment to crack up.)

He was pretty much done moving by the end of the weekend. A couple of months later, we did a 4-miler which went much better.

A couple of months after that, we did my dad’s first half marathon! He didn’t really train all that much, so he turned into a 5-year-old at the end.

But he got back up (trained this time), and we did another half marathon together in October – beating our previous time by something like 25 minutes!

Now, my dad is talking about doing his first full marathon. (He’s already said he’ll do the Mohican Marathon in June – through the woods, climbing root walls and things. We have witnesses to verify this!)

I didn’t really notice the progress as it was happening, but it’s fun to look back on it!

Congrats on how far you’ve come, Daddy. I love you so much! I look forward to more races with you in 2013 (and beyond)!

Awwww. You are such a sweet little baby brown eyed girl. You have inspired me to keep striving to do my best. I can’t imagine going through open heart surgery. I’m still whining about having a torn quadricep eight years ago! That was MINOR compared to what you’ve been through. You are MY hero.

I will continue to try to make our walk/runs fun. I’m very nervous about going 26.1 since I am an old, fat man. I’ll try my hardest. 🙂

Aww, even I’m still whining about your torn quadricep! Rough times.

You’re not old! Old is a relative term, not an absolute one. We’re all old to someone and young to someone else. (And you better not be old, ’cause I plan on being your age at some point in the future, but I certainly don’t plan on getting old! :-))

I love you most! (psst any blog readers hanging out in these comments, that’s what LYM means, but don’t tell anyone. 😉 That’s our secret shorthand. :-))

I'd love to hear from you! So whaddya say?
