“Grey’s Anatomy” (And Amazing Arizona) – Part 1

May 29, 2013

Dr. Arizona Wallace smiling at barLet’s go ahead and make this kind of a TV-themed week on the blog.

We’ve already been talking about television for two days, so why not?

If you don’t watch Grey’s Anatomy (and/or if you haven’t seen the finale), you should skip this post. (Also, you should watch it.)

But if you do watch Grey’s, please talk about it with me!

*spoilers like crazy in this post, by the way*

Arizona did not upset me in the finale – but all the ridiculous comments about her upset me! Sort of. I mean, she’s just a TV character. So, what do I really care about what people think?)

But, actually I do care what people think, and here’s why:

I want to (someday (as soon as I can)) write shows that people love. But how am I ever supposed to write things people love when I am so often against the public opinion on things?!

Also, I think (though I don’t know this for sure) that writers of many TV shows read and consider fan reactions to their shows. So, what if the writers of Grey’s Anatomy consider this super majority with this incredibly wrong opinion?

That’s right. I’m just calling it as wrong. I know we’re all entitled to our opinions, I guess… But, come on!

Now, let me start by saying that there is no excuse for cheating. None. In no way am I trying to say what Arizona did is defendable or okay. But it is understandable.

First off, I have the whole underlying issue that I’ve never liked Callie and Arizona together at all. Arizona is this lovely, practically perfect woman. And Callie is this annoying uuuugggh.

Do you remember when Arizona got her dream in the form of that incredible grant to go change things in Africa for a year? And then instead of being a happy, supportive partner about it, Callie acted like a selfish, spoiled brat? And then, when strong Arizona went anyway, Callie immediately fell into bed with a man (Mark)?

Unfortunately, Arizona gave up her dream and came back just to placate her inconsiderate partner. (The only things I’ve ever not liked about Arizona are things she somehow got pressured into doing by Callie.)

This is only one example of the horrible things Arizona does to her life because of Callie’s involvement in it. I’m sure I could go back and find more, but we don’t need to re-hash everything. My point is, that relationship has always annoyed me. And honestly, I was relieved/excited that they were bringing in a new possible love interest for Arizona.

And this is where I’ll pick up tomorrow.

I'd love to hear from you! So whaddya say?
