Sex and the City (The Movie) – Part 1 (The Lovely Things I Forgot About The Movie)

May 23, 2014

sex and the city1So, the other night, Sex and the City happened to be on TV.

(And by the other night, I mean months ago. But this was in my drafts, and is related to something we talked about yesterday and will talk about after this. So I’m finally getting this out of my drafts folder.)

I try not to make a habit of stopping down to watch stuff on TV. Don’t get me wrong, I looooove television. I adore it to pieces.

But I usually like to watch it in the gym, or on the bus, or wherever – not just chilling in my living room worried about what else I could be doing… But everybody needs to just veg sometimes, yeah?

I couldn’t not watch it. I’d seen it long ago, and remembered loving it. (I don’t often go to movies, but I went to this one 3 times in the opening week!… Mainly that was because I had different people who wanted to go each time… but let me tell ya, I was always down to see it again.)

(*spoilers, by the way in case you are still waiting to see it for some reason*)

Even after having seen it 3 times in a week span, I couldn’t remember all the ins and outs of the movie from 5 years ago. I also couldn’t totally remember what happened in the first movie vs. the second one. So, I decided to watch it.

I forgot how great that show was! And I forgot the hilarious little moments within the movie.

I almost died laughing when one of the girls asked Samantha, “When was the last time you were happy?” She said, “Six months ago.” Miranda said, “I think that’s normal for L.A.” Bahahahahahaha! So true, right?

The movie also just made me hurt for New York City… I can’t even elaborate. I just ached.

I loved what the writers did for each character. I thought everything was just played so real and true. I liked that incredibly strong Miranda took so much time to be away from Steve after his affair. That seemed real to me that she would immediately leave him.

But, maybe just maybe, it wasn’t worth throwing everything away over one indiscretion when they did have a kid and a history and all of that… I mean, I get where she was originally coming from. But the fact that he seems like a genuinely good guy. (Fictional guy, I know. But good, nonetheless.) And the fact that he really had to work to get her back… I think it’s okay they ended up together.

I'd love to hear from you! So whaddya say?
