I signed up for this basically on a whim, ’cause I had a free weekend in New York, and I thought why not!
I need to get back in the habit of doing some more of these. And I want to explore different parts of New York and everything.
When I was getting ready to go to the expo, my dad suggested, “Sweetheart, maybe just bring a bag and stay in Long Island if you feel like it.”
I totally did. (And I totally did.)
I know Long Island isn’t even that far, but it was so great to get out of the city for a bit, and just to stay in a hotel (since I love hotels).
The night before, I had a great time watching the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in my hotel room. After all, my boss was the host!
Flash forward to race day. It was a really super well-run race. Everything was so clear and so organized. The signs were very clear as to where everything was.
They also had Snapple facts on all the mile markers. Snapple facts are so weird, right? For so many of them, I was like, “Wait! Is that true?! No really, though, is that true?!!”
(A FOURTH of the bones in your whole body are in your feet?! I mean… I could see it. But dang.)
So, that was fun.
Also, one thing that was nice was that toward the end, when we got on a narrower trail in a park, there was a recording over a loudspeaker that kept repeating that slower runners should go to the right.
So many new people don’t seem to know that. But The Long Island Marathon politely helped to tell you.
After the race, everyone I met was so nice! I got a free lil’ massage, and these College Hunks Hauling Junk guys were funny and lifted me up (soooooo easily) to show me how strong they were and how much they could carry. It was pretty super awesome. I felt tiny and popular and cool!
Basically, it was a great race, and when it was over, I went on over to some museums – which I’ll talk about tomorrow.
