Picking up from last time –
As soon as I got up there, I started in with “last time I was a kidney patient.” She high-fived me for giving the answer before she even asked, “What were you last time?” since I heard her ask everyone in front of me.
She said, “I remember you! You were so adorable.” Then she asked how I felt being zonked.
I said something along the lines of, “Well, it was nice to have a special memory with my dad.” I don’t know if that was a stupid answer, but I do know that at least saying my dad jogged her memory even more. (That wasn’t part of a strategy or anything, but a nice added side bonus.)
She exclaimed something like, “Oh yeah! Your dad. I loved you guys. You were so cute.”
She asked me how the kidney process worked on. I don’t know why it didn’t dawn on my that they would ask about this. Of course they would ask about this! And I hadn’t at all thought about how I was going to phrase the fact that I was totally rejected.
So, I said something (in the most positive voice I could) along the lines of, “Well, there was a snag in the urine test. But we’re going to try to figure out what’s going on.”
I didn’t know if that was bad, if maybe they felt had since I never became a donor after all… Or if maybe – because no matter how I phrase it or what inflections I use, it still sucks – they just didn’t like any negative energy at LMAD. I don’t know if any of that had anything to do with me not getting picked.
All I do know is that at the time I dressed as a living kidney donor, I thought it was pretty safe to believe it was going to happen. And now it wasn’t. And I couldn’t change any of that.
Anyway, at the end of my interview, I tried to get out something about zonkstacle course medal. I didn’t even get to show my cool medal. There was no time. She had to go on to the next person.
I had no idea how I’d really come across. I basically felt like a mess. And I didn’t think my chances were all that strong.
Once we got inside, it was go, go, go time. The Let’s Make a Deal people were rushing. So we needed to go get our phones turned in as quickly as possible.
And this is where I’ll pick up next time.
