Okay, so as we get back to talking about Mexico, even though it’s a little out of order of how stuff happened there, I thought I’d post this post I actually drafted soon after I got him!
Soooooooo, the show I was working on got cancelled early.
And the way, it worked was I was given this option – “the hotel’s already paid for. You can stay ’til you were supposed to leave, or you can just go now since you’re done.”
Obviously I stayed. Who goes back from Mexico early? The whole reason I took the job was because it was free Mexico time from April – June!
(It wasn’t lucrative career-wise for me or anything. But goodness gracious was it some great (free) time in another country. This is pretty much the best outcome – I still get the free trip, and I don’t even have to work! What could be better?)
So, anyway, I stayed, but everyone else I knew on the crew left. [Basically, everyone was just getting homesick, and wanted to go back.]
In all my free time, just hanging out, I’ve been crossing things off in my book of things to do in the Baja Peninsula. And one of the many things is just heading over to Tecolote Beach to see what’s up.
While there, I found this bar full of locals and met Gary – this random nice older (ish) dude who happened to know a bunch of other people from my crew (who’d stopped by in the many weeks we’ve been here).
So, Gary’s like “where’s everybody else?”
And I go “I guess they were tired of being gone.”
And he says “you’re not gone; you’re here.”
Dang. Didn’t realize some random conversation at a bar I went to on a whim was gonna whip out some incredible life advice applicable to a bunch of stuff. And yet, here we are.
I found that to be such an interesting philosophical statement. “You’re not gone; you’re here.”
[You’re not living in a moment that’s passed by – in a place where you might be sentimental. You’re not in a place you used to be, or that you hope to be soon. You’re adding to the place you currently are. So, stick your feet in and enjoy it and add to it.]
I dunno… It just stuck with me, and I think it’ll stick with me for a while. I like it a lot, so I wanted to share it with you too!
You’re not gone. You’re here!
