Two Jobs At Once?! (2013)

February 7, 2021

Picking up from last time –

In fall of 2013, I started working a night job on a dating show (I Wanna Marry Harry).

I really lucked out. They were looking for people to only help for about two weeks. After only two AE jobs (and lower level ones that that, where I wasn’t expected to do all the AE duties), I don’t know that I would’ve been heavily considered at many places.

But since this place needed short-term help immediately, I think they hired me with the idea of, “Meh, it’s just two or three weeks. What’s the worst that could happen?”

I didn’t want to leave my ‘day job’ early because they’d been so good to me. I didn’t want to make them feel slighted. (And I didn’t want to leave a place early for a 2-week job… even though the day job was almost over.) Also, I really wanted to keep getting those paychecks, son!

But, I couldn’t very well turn down the opportunity to meet more people and get another show on my resume. Thankfully, it was a night job. So I figured I’d just do them both.

Those two weeks were incredibly hard. The night job had LOTS of cameras to sync. The commutes were LONG. The sleep was rare. But I made it through!

The day job came to a close, and the night job extended me out, and eventually moved me to another show – Shahs of Sunset.

It was cool because I learned a lot. The people were nice. I got to do a little sizzle reel for Ryan Seacrest. And I got to edit some bonus online content.

So this was a place I got to grow a lot in AE skills, and beginning to have editor skills as well.

And this is where I’ll pick up next time!

I'd love to hear from you! So whaddya say?
