First Post-Production Supervisor Job (2014) – Part 1 (Getting The Job)

February 8, 2021

Picking up from last time –

I don’t remember what exactly was going on with Shahs, but I think for all intents and purposes it wasn’t coming back at least for a long time, because there was about a year break between episodes from early 2014 to early 2015.

So, in early 2014, as the season was coming to a close, I needed another job. Yet again, I turned to StaffMeUp.

I applied to basically any place I might even kinda sorta kinda be qualified for. I kept wanting to explore different areas of TV and things I might be able to do.

Being good at admin stuff, and having experience in post-production, I got this interview to be a post coordinator.

Now, at this place (Gurney, I’ll just tell you; I don’t care haha), they don’t actually have post-coordinators. They only have post supervisors. If you got hired as a post coordinator there, you were going to be acting as a post supervisor. You were going to be communicating with the network and holding a lot of the responsibility.

The only hired ‘coordinators’ (as supervisors) because they were trying to save money – which was a running theme.

Most even just coordinators (who didn’t have supervisor responsibilities) were making ~$1,200/week, give or take. But I was only offered $900/week since I had no credits in this role. That in an of itself seemed fair. You’re new, you make some less than standard.

But I was told if the first show went well, I’d get rolled over and get a raise. Well, when I got there, I learned that many people had been there with years and no raise – just an empty promise of one. Some even had to carry 2 or 3 shows which no raise.

It was a wild environment that grated on me more and more as time went on.

Every little thing just showed people being taken advantage of, and ethical things I thought were weird (like using illegal copies of software instead of bought ones).

And this is where I’ll pick up next time!

I'd love to hear from you! So whaddya say?
